Wow! I raked in some serious Yuletide booty yesterday! Seems like the stars aligned and whispered into my friend's and family's ears to gift me with awesome kitcheny stuff. The holiday haul included:
KitchenAid Stand Mixer
I'm so excited about this one! My parents and grandmother all went in together to get this for my husband and me. I fell asleep last night reading the instruction manual. I can't wait to give this a try. I have weak wrists and forearms from working as a barista many moons ago. This should help a lot.
Hubbie and I got a Foodsaver as a gift to each other. I've been playing with it a bit already and it's the coolest thing ever. From now 'til the start of spring semester, I plan to make double portions of a lot of the things I cook so I can freeze and store them for easy dinners when I don't have time to cook. It even re-seals pre-packaged food to keep it fresh. Economical. Saves time. Awesome!
Witchy Spoon Rest
This adorable gift from a friend is a marble spoon rest with a Shakespearean quote carved into it. It reads, "Eye of newt & toe of frog, Wool of bat and tongue of dog." So cute! For those not in the know, those ingredients are actually referring to herbs, so it's totally vegan-appropriate, mkay?
Giant Star Form
A gift from another friend who knows I'm crazy for stars. I plan on using this to make vegan brownies and cakes or maybe even a giant vegan star cookies. Sweet. (Yeah, that was a purposeful pun. I make no apologies.)
Scented Fabric Trivet
Another gift from the same friend who also knows I love all things kitchen-spicy. You set hot stuff on it and yummy spicy lusciousness wafts out. That's hot. (Yes, another purposeful pun. Still no apologies.)
Canon Rebel Digital Camera
Ok, this isn't really a kitchen item per se, but I'll be using it to take killer food porn pictures for this blog, so I'm listing it anyway. This was a last minute gift from my hubbie (though it's for both of us) because our other camera broke a couple weeks ago. It still took pics, but the zoom was no longer functioning. I'm so excited about the new camera. I'm still getting used to it, but I'm sure my photos will get better now.
Book: Eat, Drink & be Vegan: by Dreena Burton
True confession: this was a gift to myself. You know, one of those moments when you're out shopping for others and find stuff for yourself. I haven't even had time to look through this yet, but it caught my eye because I had been listening to an archived episode of VeganFreaks earlier that day and they were praising the recipes in it. I'm sure I'll be diving into it very soon.
Like I said, I scored. Reports on my family's reactions to the vegan side dishes I brought to Christmas dinner soon to come.
