I'm not a big PETA fan, but they do get all up in the undercover investigations revealing deplorable conditions and inexcusable treatment of animals. Sometimes in surprising situations.
This is yesterday's Today Show segment on their latest investigation with commentary from a veterinarian not associated with PETA. The footage was taken at Rainbow Exotics, Inc. in Texas, a supplier to major pet stores like PetSmart.
This is what happens when living creatures are comodified. They aren't seen or treated as sentient beings any longer, but rather ... stock. Live stock. When done with humans, this is illegal. It's called slavery. I don't understand the disconnect.

Where can you buy pets and pet supplies without contributing to this madness?
local shops. look on craigslist for unwanted animals as pets. make your own treats. buy litter from heb or walmart. use towels as washable and allergen free bedding for your rats/hamsters/guinea pigs. shop online. martins cages online sells great cages for a great price.
One of Petsmarts slogans is "We like to see healthy happy pets" Just dont buy them there. I use to work in Pet Care and the animals mostly Rats and Guinea Pigs would be so stressed from the trip. Usually a 3 day stay in a trailor. They would come down with respiratory infections. I couldnt stand to see them suffer anymore. I QUIT!
I live in the community wehre this breeding hellhole is located. Animal neglect/abuse is part of the local culture. PetSmart said they did an inspection but...they must have had their eyes closed. Locally they accept killing companion animals and hanging them on the fence!
